POWER LINE TECHNICIAN PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
WHAT IS A POWER LINE TECHNICIAN (PLT)?
Power line technicians (PLTs) build and maintain overhead and underground high voltage power distribution and transmission line systems. They install, maintain, and repair poles, towers, and powerlines. This involves working on voltages up to 500kV. They are employed by electrical utility companies, electrical contractors, public utilities, and other industrial sectors, such as mining and oil/gas companies. The demand for electrical power is on the rise as technology continues to evolve, and with an expected wave of older workers to retire soon, this trade is currently in high demand.
12-WEEK POWER LINE PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
Power Line Technician is a nationally designated trade under the Red Seal program. EITI Global Ltd.'s Power Line Technician Pre-Apprenticeship program provides students with the basic skills necessary to enter the workplace as a power line worker. This foundations program covers activities and core skills required in Level 1 of the Power Line Technician Red Seal Program, including both theory and practical based exercises. This hands-on training is delivered in collaboration with the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV).
