WHAT IS A CERTIFIED UTILITY ARBORIST (CUA)?

A Certified Utility Arborist is a formal apprenticeship, and upon completion, provides the individual with a Certificate of Qualifications and a Certificate of Apprenticeship as provided by SkilledTradesBC (formerly ITA).

A Certified Utility Arborist is a person maintains, prunes, or clears vegetation in proximity* to energized power system lines & equipment, structures, and conductors. This includes pruning, falling, or removing trees which could come in contact with energized power lines.

*defined as a distance of three metres or less from a primary conductor with voltage of 750 volts or higher

CUA APPRENTICE PROGRAM

SkilledTrades BC oversees the certification of the apprenticeship, and EITI Global Ltd. provides the technical training. The program is structured to provide both in-school and on-the-job training.

To successfully complete the apprenticeship program an apprentice must complete a total of 2387 hrs of on the job related work, with 1200 of these hours working in proximity to high voltage lines/conductors.

As an apprentice, students attend two levels of training: Level 1 (six weeks) and Level 2 (two weeks). Both levels consist of a theory portion and a practical portion, and include an exam at the end. 

LEVEL 1

Course Duration: 6 weeks

Course Cost: $2300 (GST/PST exempt)
Course Materials: Manual included with tuition. Apprentices are required to provide their own PPE. A list will be e-mailed prior to the course start.

Course Location: Langley (theory - first 3 weeks), Abbotsford (practical - last 3 weeks)

LEVEL 2

Course Duration: 2 weeks

Course Cost: $800 (GST/PST exempt)
Course Materials: Apprentices are required to bring their manual from Level 1, and provide all of their own PPE. A list will be e-mailed prior to the course start.

REGISTRATION

To apply for the program, all students must first be registered by their sponsor or employer in the UA program with SkilledTrades BC

Once a student has received their ID number from SkilledTrades BC, their employer/sponsor can then register them in the technical training with EITI Global Ltd.

$150.00 non-refundable deposit (per apprentice) is due at the time of registration. The remaining balance of the tuition amount is due 30 days prior to the course start. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and AMEX.

In some cases, EITI Global Ltd. may need to postpone a course due to low registration. If a course is postponed and the new dates are unsuitable for your apprentice, EITI Global Ltd. will provide a full refund or credit to your account to be used for a future course.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

In the event your apprentice can no longer attend the course, our cancellation policy is as follows.

1. 30+ days notice prior to the course start: 100% tuition refund or credit, minus $150.00 deposit

2. 12 - 29 days notice prior to the course start: 50% tuition refund or credit, minus $150.00 deposit.

3. 0 - 13 days notice prior to the course start: no refund or credit.
