All EITI programs address the most current worker safety and maintenance procedures and meet the Canadian “Red Seal” standard for quality. Where applicable, all courses meet or exceed Workers' Compensation Board Regulation(s) and those set by other Provincial regulatory agencies.

Powerline Worker Training

Powerline Worker training programs focus on skill and safety. Powerline construction and maintenance training includes rigging, live line work methods to 500 kV, complete underground installations with terminations to 35 kV, climbing, fall protection and rescue procedures.

Substations and Generation

EITI offers code-compliant, classroom and hands-on training programs for high voltage substation personnel. Substation personnel are taught how to safely perform such hazardous tasks as operating disconnect switches, isolating circuit breakers and grounding station lines. Programs include current regulations, policies and procedures.

Worker Safety

EITI provides training for all industry workers, from new crew members to worksite supervisors. Combining theory with active application, EITI’s safety programs incorporate industry best practices with your own safety program. EITI’s programs are designed to meet or exceed all regulatory requirements.

Certified Utility Arborist

This program is for new and experienced arborists who need to work in close proximity to high voltage power lines. Participants will be taught applicable industry safety regulations. With both classroom and hands-on training, the program includes arboriculture, trimming, felling trees and other vegetation, climbing, safe chipper and aerial lift operations, falling/bucking and rigging. Environmental Training

This course is intended for tradespeople in the electrical industry. It reviews common industry work practices and their potential to violate environmental legislation. The program provides management practices that reduce potential harm and consequential mitigation. Learn More

Industry Orientation and Operations

From general industry orientation to improving the effectiveness of your utility operation, EITI has the course for you. Whether you are new to the utility industry or simply want to better understand the challenges of your workers, EITI provides both classroom and field orientation of electrical fundamentals from a non-technical point of view. EITI also provides training to help you improve the development, operation, maintenance and marketing of your utility company.

Public Electrical Safety Programs

Does your workforce ever work near high voltage electricity? Do your workers know what to do to protect themselves against injury or death in the event of a contact with electrical lines or equipment? BC Hydro sponsors free training sessions for all workplaces in both the private and public sectors. Work towards eliminating electrical risks on the job.
